The region is dominated by the 'Eastern Edges' which rise high above the Derwent valley; Froggatt Edge, Curbar, Baslow Gardoms and Birchen. These Edges are crags of up to 100 feet high made from the rock called gritstone. It has been quarried extensively for making millstones. The walking in the east side of Derbyshire is superb. Renting a holiday cottage in this part of the Peak District is a paradise for any fan of the great outdoors.
