Limestone dales.

Climbing

Gritstone edges at Froggatt, Birchen, Gardom’s, Black Rocks and Cratcliffe, grit bouldering at Cratcliffe, Eagle Tor, Stanton Moor, odd bits of bolted limestone. Major limestone crags of High Tor, Wildcat, Willersley (sensitive access - check BMC web site) and Harboro Rocks (mainly bouldering).

Cycling

Tissington Trail, High Peak trail, backroads and bridleways.

Country Park

Chatsworth Park.

History

Derwent Valley World Heritage site (Industrial revolution at Cromford, Belper and Milford in particular), Roman buildings at Royston Grange, Arbor Low (Henge) and many other stone circles including the bronze age complex at Stanton Moor. Lead and mineral mining (museum at Matlock Bath).

Scenery

Limestone dales, attractive and interesting towns and villages.

Theme Parks

Gulliver’s Kingdom (for young children), further away, towards Nottingham is the American Adventure.

Water Sports

Kayaking on the Derwent at Matlock Bath, windsurfing and sailing at Carsington Reservoir.
